Next up in Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture’s (YSAC) outdoor experiences for all, is a grant-funded trip to Truckee for a cross-country skiing adventure. What’s that you say? You don’t know how to ski or have never tried cross-country skiing? Not a problem. Lessons are included at no additional charge. In fact, the whole outing is free and is funded thanks to a generous grant from the California State Parks & Recreation Department. It is all made possible thanks to a $200,000 Outdoor Equity Program Grant YSAC received from the Department.  The funding is part of a California State Parks statewide initiative that has provided $57 million in grant funding to 125 communities, including Yuba-Sutter, to help advance its “Outdoor Access for All” initiative. The funding helps establish hubs for local activities and trips to natural areas for underserved communities.

Participants will meet at the YSAC offices, 624 E Street in Marysville, at 6:30 am where you will check-in, sign release forms, and gather nature journaling supplies. At 7:00 am, the charter bus will invite all on board and head to the destination (2-hour bus ride). Once the destination is reached, Alder Creek Adventure Center, 15275 Alder Creek Road in Truckee, equipment will be issued, and skiers will be grouped for the 90-minute lesson. Upon lesson completion, skiers can try the trails or stay in the flat meadow to test their new skills. There is always the ski lodge where you can sit inside and do some nature journaling and sketching, reflect on the day, or just get warm and dry. Lunch will be provided at noon consisting of chicken Ceaser or veggie/hummus wraps, vegetarian chili, a cookie, and chips. The bus will leave at 2:00 pm and return to Marysville by 4:00 pm. There will be a highly recommended, virtual information session in advance of the Ski Trip on February 21 at 4:00 pm

FREE, $20 refundable deposit at time of registration. Cash will be distributed back to participants upon arrival, no shows will not receive a refund.
