THIS HIKE IS FULL!!!

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy exclusive Sutter Buttes properties on a hike through beautiful rolling hills, vistas with plenty of flora and fauna with time set aside for nature journaling and sketching activities. These hikes are of moderate difficulty and are not recommended for children under 12. Carpooling is required by the Middle Mountain Foundation as car access is very limited.

Trips are limited to 30 people each. Participants must register in advance at yubasutterarts.org. The outing is free, but there is a $10 registration fee which will be fully refunded when checking in the morning of the event.

Art and journaling supplies, admission fees and snacks are all provided at no cost to participants. This hike will be an easy 3-mile hike with several breaks for nature journaling. A guide will lead the group into the Buttes. Participants will receive nature journals and supplies needed for the planned art activities. In addition, an artist will be embedded in our hiking group and offer instruction/guidance with a few simple techniques you might want to try. Consider bringing extras such as a folding stool/chair or ground cloth for sitting on during journaling and additional journaling supplies such as a hand lens, ruler, sticky notes, or tape. If you are unfamiliar with nature journaling, check out the John Muir Laws website. Our day will begin with a check-in, liability sign-off, and a quick art lesson at the Yuba Sutter Arts building at 624 E St., Marysville. Please plan to be there by 7:45 am. After instruction and logistics, we can set up carpooling to the rendezvous point, where we will meet our guide at 8:45 am. (Chevron/Power Market @ 9811 Live Oak Blvd., Live Oak, CA 95953). The Chevron/Power Market has food, drinks, and restrooms that you should utilize before we head out. We will drive into the Buttes together and exit together. No individual entry/exit is permitted. Much of the hike will not be on a “trail” but will be cross-country, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Participants are responsible for packing and carrying food and water for the day. Lunch will be eaten on the trail. There are porta-potty bathrooms located at the beginning of the hike, but no facilities are located on the trail. Cameras, binoculars, and hiking sticks are other pieces of equipment you may want to bring.

If you have questions, please call Anna Newman@ (956) 525-2031

Virtual Info Session for the hike is on April 10, 2024 4:00 pm. THIS IS A MEETING TO PREP FOR THE HIKE. THE HIKE IS NOT ON APRIL 10th, IT IS ON APRIL 13th.
