Details
Table Mountain Ecological Preserve is known for its spring wildflower bloom, but it also includes fabulous views and, at the right times of the year, waterfalls! This hike will be moderately strenuous due to the poor footing and a few canyon ups and downs. The length of the hike is approximately 2.3 miles out and 2.3 miles back, so close to 5 miles. We will be stopping for several sessions of nature journaling (20 to 30 minutes) and for lunch. Please wear appropriate shoes, as the footing can be tricky. Be sure to bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, and layers of clothing as the weather is changeable (the wind blows on the top, making it cool, but the sun concentrates in the canyons, making it warm). Pack a lunch to be eaten on the trail. Restrooms are available at the trailhead but are not maintained very well, so use them at your own risk!
Please plan on meeting at 8:00 am at the Yuba Sutter Arts building at 624 E Street, Marysville, CA, for check-in so that we can pass out supplies and take care of a few logistics. Supplies include journals, pencils, erasers, bottled water, and snacks. In addition, Land Passes are necessary for this day trip on the Table Mountain Ecological Preserve and will be provided by Yuba Sutter Arts on the morning of the hike. We have an embedded artist who will give a short art/journaling lesson before we leave the Gallery on E. Street. An embedded scientist will help identify wildlife and wildflowers as we hike. We will carpool/caravan from the Yuba Sutter Arts building location to the Table Mountain Ecological Preserve and plan on returning to the Yuba Sutter Arts building location at 3:00 pm.
