“Art & Oysters” is back this year and promises to be even bigger and better than ever; more oysters, more music, more art. A collaboration between Yuba Sutter Arts and South Yuba County Rotary, Art & Oysters will be held on Sunday November 10th from 4 - 8pm.
The location will once again be Justin’s Kitchen, 628 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Tickets are $40 each or two for $75 in advance. Tickets at the door, if available, will be $50 each. Admission includes all you can eat oysters and side dishes. Tickets are available online at yubasutterarts.org and in person at Yuba Sutter Arts’ offices in Marysville. The event is limited to the first 100 guests so do not delay if planning to attend. The live music, art, atmosphere and great company are all included. Proceeds from the event will benefit youth education and arts programs in Sutter and Yuba Counties.
So, what might one expect at an event titled “Art & Oysters” you ask? This year there will be multiple oyster stations serving over 800 oysters. You can select from barbequed, “Rockefellered,” or on the half shell oysters without the long wait times. The oysters will include Justin’s selection of the finest oysters from the north coast with a special selection of his unique sauces and mignonettes. And for those who don’t yet have their “oyster legs,” chicken and a wonderful array of side dishes will be available. “He was a bold man that first ate an oyster,” or so said author Jonathan Swift who wrote “Gulliver’s Travels.” No boldness will be required at Art & Oysters.
Live music will be provided by the Grover Anderson Ensemble from Calaveras County with a selection of original songs and covers of popular music. And what about the “art” in Art & Oysters? Our featured artist this year will be Pam Nowak who just completed a gallery show at the Theater Gallery. Pam will present “Pam on Paper,” past and new works in mixed media on paper including watercolor, pen and ink and color pencil.
There will be hand-painted oyster holiday ornaments in addition to oyster wreaths, oyster frames, oyster with succulents, oyster candleholders and other custom oyster-inspired creations all available in time for holiday gift giving.
Come support a great seasonal community event with a special twist. And remember, just like in the “Oyster and the Carpenter” by Lewis Carroll, “O Oysters,' said the Carpenter, you've had a pleasant run! Shall we be trotting home again? But answer came there none — And this was scarcely odd, because they'd eaten every one."
