Description:
Next up in its “Jazz at the Burrows Theater” concert series is the Greg Johnson Quartet. Yuba Sutter Arts believes it is important to share a wide variety of musical genres with our community. Anyone serious about music will want to attend a very special upcoming concert by these remarkable musicians.

Composer Greg Johnson grew up in the Midwest listening to Gospel, Motown and Beethoven. In the early 1970s, immersion into bands like Yes, The Who, Pink Floyd and Weather Report and pianists like Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and others led to a compositional exploration that combined their influences into the power quartet, Glass Brick Boulevard. After 28 glorious years of joy and tears, over a hundred compositions, seven recordings, thousands of performances, and hundreds of thousands of fans and international critical acclaim, the Glass Brick Band had “one last concert” in December of 2018.

During the last several years of his mother’s life, Greg spent many Sunday mornings at her church, Center of Praise, in Sacramento. The church’s band was exceptional so it was inevitable that he would find a way to connect with the ultra-sensitive bassist, Chris McEwen, groove-master drummer, Lem McEwen, and the ever uplifting and illuminating, Jonno Strickling, on soprano sax.

Together they now form a soulful, original contemporary jazz quartet that is equal parts sophistication, spirituality, sultriness, and flat out sass. You’ll move, you’ll cry, then you’ll move some more. Today Greg splits his time between Marysville and the Bay Area as both performer and music educator.

The show will be held at the Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts, 630 E Street in Marysville on Saturday, February 15th. Doors open at 6:30 for and the shows start at 7pm. Beverages will be available. General admission is $20 and $18 for Seniors, Students and Military.

Tickets may be purchased online at yubasutterarts.org or in person at Yuba Sutter Arts, 624 E Street, Wednesday through Friday from 11-4. Plenty of free parking is available on the adjacent streets and in the nearby Umpqua Bank and Bank of America parking lots.
