Swan Festival is Back!
Hundreds flocked to the Yuba Sutter region to participate in the CA Swan Festival after taking a 2 year hiatus. Goers of the event seemed to have had a fantastic time and saw thousands of Swans and many other species of birds.
Our region is a spectacular spot to view our migrating feathered friends and they did not disappoint this weekend. Guests of festival had the opportunity to explore the Sutter Buttes, Gray Lodge, Beale AFB, and areas in District 10 to name a few. Many attended our presentations given by West Coast Falconry, Wild Things and experts on owls and bats! Overall, folks were happy to see Swan Festival back and have plans to attend again next year!

WORST SOCIAL BUSINESS ADVICE MOST PEOPLE FOLLOW
If you own a business or work for one, I’m hoping it’s a social one. I’m hoping you’ve embraced at least one social media platform and are working hard to engage and connect on it. If not, go do that. If you already are, you should appreciate this list of the worst advice out there for social businesses.
Try it All
Some businesses are so excited about every social platform that they get out there every time a new shiny object shows up. Vine, My Space, Eons, and Orkut appreciate your efforts. (Sorry, a little social media humor.)
Find sites that your ideal customer is on or ones your client demographic matches. Then be present. Share and comment on content consistently and you’ll see the same happen to yours.

Don’t Put Price on the Website.
This depends largely on your industry but if you’re not putting price on your website because you’re afraid your competitors can see it; I assure you they probably already have. The benefit of putting price on your website (if it’s something that has a set price like software) is that a lot of people can self-disqualify without tying up your sales team.
Many businesses are under the impression their sales department is so good that when people with a small budget call, they can talk them into their pricey product. But you’re wasting everyone’s time. Even if they can be talked into it, your product’s price will make the buyer uncomfortable and eventually they will cut ties. Instead, move the question away from price by providing it on your website surrounded in value.
Be a Thought Leader
Becoming a thought leader is wonderful but being of value is better and most people don’t have it in them to truly be a thought leader. It takes a special kind of person to speak broadly of their industry and trends. But everyone can be of value. Anyone can produce content their audience needs. Everyone can analyze their data to derive what’s important to their target demographic. If you can be a thought leader, great. If that’s not for you then be a thoughtful leader and help your audience with the things you share.
A Final Piece of the Worst Social Business Advice People Follow
In the early days of social media, I was working for a tech company. I was the first person to claim their social sites and begin engaging with their audience. I asked my boss at the time, the head of marketing, if I needed my own personal profiles on these sites. He said he didn’t see the point. Like all good employees who would eventually start their own businesses, I did it anyway.
If you are sharing on social for your business, don’t neglect your own personal brand. Build on that as well. Think about large brands that use people (real and characters) to advance their brands. What would Apple have been without Jobs?
The power behind the business should be nearly as well known as the business. Some people don’t want to connect with companies because they’re afraid you’ll sell to them. But they will connect with other people. Build your social business but don’t neglect your personal brand. The two will bolster one another.

The Yuba Sutter Chamber of Commerce (YSCC) supported Pieology Pizzeria and celebrated the grand opening of their restaurant by conducting a “Ribbon Cutting” Ceremony for them on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. They are located at 550 N Palora Yuba City.
Pieology Pizzeria is a fast-casual made to order pizzeria. The modern pizzeria allows you to enjoy fresh & flavorful pizza with signature sauces and dozens of fresh toppings or salads. You can choose your favorite flavor combination, and it’ll be ready under five hot minutes.
On Wednesday, November 6, from 5-8 PM, Pieology had a $5 Pizza Night. Attendees who check in on Facebook, Yelp or Google, took home pizza for $5. 100% of the proceeds supported the “Yuba-Sutter Food Bank,” a non-profit organization that assists their clients in a healthier lifestyle, alleviate hunger among the disadvantaged and elderly and to make the public aware of the problem of the underprivileged and the elderly.
The event raised $1343.00.

A Hand Full of Keys - Piano Bar

For those who may have never had the experience of hearing music at a piano bar, it consists of a piano or electric keyboard played by a professional musician, located in a cocktail lounge, bar, hotel lobby, restaurant, or on a cruise ship. Usually the pianist receives a small salary plus tips in a jar or basket on or near the piano, especially from patrons requesting a song traditionally written on a beverage napkin.
In this case, Yuba Sutter Arts will be converting the Burrows Theater into a piano bar for one evening. Not one, but two pianists will be featured; the incomparable Gay Galvin and the legendary John Paris. You will have the option to sit on stage, in the theater seats or even right up next to the pianists to make your song requests. Napkins will be provided.
This unique event is happening on Saturday, November 16 from 6-8:30 and will feature heavy appetizers, a no host bar (including Martinis) and loads of fun. The Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts is located at 630 E Street in Marysville.
Gay is trained in classical and jazz styles and has worked in big bands, musicals, jazz trios and classical ensembles. She has a master’s degree in piano performance in jazz and performs as a soloist and with her jazz trio all over northern California.
John has enjoyed an extensive musical career working with the likes of Merv Griffin, Jerry Lewis, the Minneapolis Symphony and the Moody Blues. Jazz runs through his veins and he even had his own show band in Las Vegas for many years.
Theatre historian John Kenrick describes the piano bar as “a hybrid creature: part performance space, part living room, and part saloon. The bar is there to sell drinks, the pianist is there to perform, and the crowd is there to sing, listen, drink and socialize. All of this means that it's impossible to predict what a given evening's chemistry will be, even if most of the people on hand are regular customers. While every factor counts, the most important issue is the person at the piano. The pianist determines the type of music, the style of performance, and the general tone of the evening.... The experienced piano bar player knows how to take genial control of most any situation and generally keep the party going.”
