YUBA-SUTTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
THE VOICE FOR BUSINESS CATALYST, CONVENER & CHAMPION
Dear Member,
I am not sure if you have noticed but the Chamber has been scheduling a lot of networking events lately. We are happy to start getting out again and meeting with our businesses, colleagues and friends. If you can make it out, we would love to see you!
Tonight, we are hosting a Candidate Forum in Live Oak for Live Oak’s special election in December. We will be asking questions of the four candidates who are running for the open seat on the Live Oak City Council. Candidates are: Aleks Tica, Cruz Mora, Jeramy Chapdelaine and Rick Dais. These kinds of activities are important to us as a Chamber. We want to provide opportunities for the community’s residents and business owners to be well informed when they go to the polls. Our elected officials are making decisions on our behalf and we want to ensure that the decisions being made align with our values and ideals for our community. You can attend in person (Live Oak Middle School, 2082 Pennington Road, Live Oak) or watch live on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YubaSutterChamber
The other opportunity we provide you to engage with your elected officials is at our Business Connection Breakfasts. This week will be such an opportunity! This Friday, we are hosting the State of Cities breakfast. We are excited to have the Mayors Marc Boomgarden (Yuba City), Chris Branscum (Marysville), Rick West (Wheatland) and Vice Mayor Nancy Santana, Live Oak all attend and provide our guests with the latest updates that are happening at each of the cities. This is also a wonderful opportunity to ask questions. We hope you will join us! Please register!
Lastly, I had the pleasure of attending the Mayor's Leadership Institute for the city of Yuba City. If you get the chance, sign up! I believe they plan to offer the class twice per year – the next one is planned for Spring of 2022.
This class was well worth the time investment which really wasn’t much – only 2 hours a night, 2 nights a week for 3 weeks…not bad! The class size is small enough that you feel engaged fully with the staff and you can feel comfortable asking lots of questions.
The class was kicked off by the City Manager, Dave Vaughn, who like all City staff, is passionate about the work they are doing. We were also welcomed by Mayor Marc Boomgaarden and enjoyed a few visits from him throughout the classes as well.
City staff covered, Administration, Finance, Public Works, Police and Fire and Development Services. We also had the opportunity to ask questions of Mayor Marc Boomgaarden and Vice Mayor Dave Shaw. So much information! All of it interesting and incredibly engaging!
All too often we might criticize or question the decisions that the City makes. This class can help to shed some light on what goes into decision making and how the City operates from department to department and how all of those decisions ultimately impact the quality of life for each of us residents of Yuba City.
This small glimpse into the City gave me a much deeper appreciation and understanding of the work of the City staff and the council. They all have challenging jobs at times, but they all have the same goal – to provide quality service and ensure that Yuba City is a thriving and great city to live, work and play in.
I am grateful to have participated! Big thanks to city of Yuba City and all the work they put into this class.
Well, that’s it for now. Have a wonderful week and be on the look out for our new Community Calendar that comes out each Friday.
Be Well, Marni

The Chamber was happy to host a Business After Hours event for Recycling Industries. They celebrated 35 Green Years!
Recycling Industries has a long history of making recycling easier and more beneficial. Their founder and CEO, Scott Kuhnen, set out to make recycling (a relatively unheard of thing 35 years ago) not just something to consider doing, but something people wanted to do.
Scott started by erecting a simple, wooden roadside newspaper deposit bin. Since those humble beginnings, they have worked tirelessly to fulfill that original vision and as a result have become one of California’s largest and fastest growing recyclers. Even with all the growth they've enjoyed, they still pride themselves most on the foundation they were built on — honest, friendly and dependable service!
