YUBA-SUTTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
THE VOICE FOR BUSINESS CATALYST, CONVENER & CHAMPION
Greetings Chamber Members!
The Holiday Season tends to be a time we spend in reflection on all that we have to be grateful for (though most of us try to be grateful daily). I know I have so many reasons to be grateful. I am certainly grateful to have the pleasure of serving this great community alongside Jacki Lee and Courtney Finstad. We are always happy to do what we can to help support our businesses. It is truly a privilege!
I would like to send you into your holiday with some news. First, I want to point out our year-end United Chamber Advocacy Network (UCAN) Report - READ FULL REPORT. I would like to highlight our Chamber’s specific effort to address the challenge that our employers were facing with competing against extended unemployment benefits. We brought this challenge to UCAN which ignited an effort to lead an initiative in opposition of the extended unemployment benefit. This was UCAN’s most significant achievement in 2021.
UCAN led this coalition calling on Governor Newsom and EDD to address the adverse impacts of extended state and federal benefits on the job market, making it difficult to fill open positions and harming the economic recovery of small business in particular.
A week after submitting a coalition letter to the Governor’s Office, EDD re-established a job search requirement for job seekers that was suspended at the beginning of COVID.
The coalition, which included the CA Business Property Association, the CA Building Industry Association, the CA Business Roundtable, the CA Retailers Assn., the Orange County Business Council and others, also met with the Deputy Director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development to discourage the extension of COVID related benefits.
Our membership to UCAN continues to provide a stronger and more amplified voice for our business community and I am happy to share the FULL REPORT with you.
Second, on a bittersweet note, Courtney Finstad, our Membership Director, will be leaving us December 10. We want to congratulate her on her new role with Blue Zones®. Blue Zones is a pioneer in taking a systemic and environmental approach to improving the health of entire cities and communities. I am sure many of you will have the opportunity to learn more about Blue Zones (from Courtney even) in the coming months. So, Courtney is off!! She has been an invaluable team member with the Chamber. Though she has only been here a short time, she has made a significant and lasting impact. I am sure we will be seeing her in the community and working with her in her new role! Her shoes will be tough to fill but nevertheless, we will try! We look forward to hiring for this position soon after the New Year. If you see Courtney, please make sure to wish her well in her new adventure.
In the last 3+ years that I have been with the Chamber I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you. Many of you have become friends. My life has been deeply enriched by these friendships. Thank you very much! I hope that you have an incredible holiday weekend! I am looking forward to getting out into the community over the Holiday Season! Hope to see you!
And, as always, thank you for your continued membership with the Chamber!
Be Well, Marni

Presented by the Marysville Business Alliance (MBA), in partnership with The City of Marysville, Yuba-Sutter Lodging Association, Sapphire Marketing Group, The Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce & Results Radio.
A Little More About The Marysville Business Alliance (MBA) A group of Marysville merchants and business owners, with the support from Yuba County and The City of Marysville City Councilmembers along with the Chamber, have come together to form a Marysville Business Alliance which will be an arm of the Chamber.
The MBA’s mission is to revitalize the area through community engagement and create a unified voice to represent the business community at a City and County level and set the direction and vision for the future, incorporating the deep history of the area through events, music, arts, and culture.
This is a grass-roots effort backed by passion of enlivening Marysville and bringing it back to its full potential. We are excited and just now hitting the ground running! All Marysville businesses are welcome to join this fantastic group. We would love your input and participation!
If you are a Marysville business owner who would like to know more about how to be involved, or help with planning for the Cowboy Christmas, please contact Courtney directly at cfinstad@yubasutterchamber.com.
The restaurant industry has been deeply impacted since the pandemic hit nearly 2 years ago. The hardships and challenges that this industry has faced and continues to face with skyrocketing product pricing and staffing shortages, has emphasized the need for support on a much more local level.
We are excited to share with you that a group of restaurant owners, community leaders and the Chamber have come together to launch the Yuba Sutter Restaurant Association (YSRA). This association will provide resources and support specifically to Yuba and Sutter restaurants. YSRA has already received backing/funding from the Chamber, several restaurants as well as US Foods and Sysco Foods.
This group is committed to building a strong and active association that supports the local restaurant industry through four core areas: joint marketing, group purchasing power, business resources/consulting and local and state level advocacy. YSRA will provide webinars and training, access to legal counsel, HR resources, access to large network of other restaurateurs, and marketing/promotion benefits. YSRA will be the voice for our Yuba Sutter restaurants.
This is a membership-based organization with many benefits we hope will help restaurants in these challenging times. Check out the benefits!

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento continues to grow and bring more amenities, entertainment and jobs to Yuba Sutter! They celebrated the grand opening of their new gas station/convenience store named RockTane.
This new business has created 16 jobs and will generate significant economic impact for our community.
Congratulations! Hard Rock continues to be an incredible contributor to economic growth and development for Yuba County!
Wow! What a wonderful place to be! Here at Sutter Estates Retirement Community for their Business After Hours event last week. This community living space is amazing. Thanks to the awesome staff for hosting us, and to the residents, too, for the great company, food and and tours.
Last week's Lunch Mob was excellent! We always ask attendees if it's their first time in the particular restaurant we're visiting and at this particular event, 5 hands went up! Las Brasas Mexican Restaurant Yuba City earned 5 new customers! If you haven't tried them, you must! They are famous for their seafood dishes!
It was great to get out and network and catch up with friends too!
