Yuba Sutter Adventurers' League is back with another episode of Season 9, "Decent." For March we will be continuing the mystery of Baldur's Gate by playing the Tier 1 adventure, "Hungry Shadows.”
“Bodies continue pile up, and the Flaming Fist still has nothing but a name. Thankfully, the perpetrator of the murders has slipped up and the Flaming Fist has captured one of their underlings, in turn, has revealed the presence of a cult hideout in the sewers beneath the city. The Flaming Fist has asked that you investigate. Are you up for the task? ”
This adventure is APL 3 Adventure, optimized for a group’s average player level of 3. All PC’s who finish this module will receive a level for the character that they played.
It has been exciting to see everyone embracing the new season and push forward through the different type of challenges brought upon with this season.
For everyone who hasn't been able to make all of this season so far, if you feel like you are in need of a boost or feel under leveled even with the level balancing system, I would suggest that you talk to one of the GMs and a few of the adventures when you arrive to discuss setting up a table that evens out your role. After all what is D&D but a channel for self expression and meeting new people.
As for GM's, or if you’re interested in GMing, please get in contact with me for information on the new Mod at Sam@Yubasutterarts.org
New and existing players can obtain information on characters and rules by going to http://dndadventurersleague.org/start-here/playing/ and can create simple builds at https://www.dndbeyond.com/

Walk into a world Japanese mysticism as Yuba Sutter Arts premieres a selection of family friendly Japanese animated films at our first ever Yuba Sutter Anime Film Festival. The in-depth story telling will pull at your heart strings as you embark through the narratives of strong and determined youth battling impossible scenarios.
The festival will comprised mostly of Studio Ghibli films along with another film developed by one of the studio’s former director. The films that will be shown are [in order of viewing] My Neighbor Totoro, The Cat Returns, Grave of the Fireflies, Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Spirited Away, and Ponyo, with a ten-minute intermission between each film.
Studio Ghibli stands as one of the most recognizable Japanese animation art studios’ in the world due to the sophisticated, creative films they have produced over the decades. Most notably working with Disney Japan for the distribution of their works, the studio has widely brought anime films to the general public of North America and Europe, allowing individuals to experience dynamically adaptive art film style in a multitude of beautifully well put together stories for all ages.
The “odd film out” of our set, Mary and the Witch’s Flower, is an anime developed by Studio Ponoc. The film has deep ties with Studio Ghibli with the producing studio’s founder, Yoshiaki Nishimura, being formerly the Lead Film Producer for Ghibli and the film’s director, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, being the youngest successful Film Director for Ghibli on their film The Secret World of Arrietty. Both have brought their shared dreams from Studio Ghibli to life with new perspective, making Mary and the Witch’s Flower a masterpiece in its own right.

Northern California’s ultimate Irish music ban, One Eyed Reilly, returns to Yuba-Sutter. The party starts at 5pm on Sunday, March 15th at Justin’s Kitchen, 628 Plumas Street in Yuba City. The evening includes a full “all you can eat” Irish buffet with corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, Irish stew and a special Irish dessert. Singer/songwriter, Tom Galvin, will get the musical festivities underway and then One Eyed Reilly will “strike up the band” at 6pm. The cost for dinner and the show is only $30 in advance or $40 at the door. Irish Coffee, Irish Whiskey, drink specials and all your other favorite beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are expected to sell out again so order in advance at yubasutterarts.org.
This year, the band will be located outside, weather permitting, with heaters if necessary. This will make them more easily accessible for guests. If you haven’t heard them before, One Eyed Reilly is a Celtic/Americana rock band that blends some original songs with modern Celtic rock, Americana, and energetic, innovative versions of traditional Irish and Scottish classics. Their original music draws upon musical influences from The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains, and The Dubliners, to Flogging Molly and The Waterboys. They infuse their live performances with occasional unexpected nuggets ranging from Bob Dylan to John Prine to Tom Waits, Wilco and the Old Crow Medicine Show. It’s a genre-bending free-for-all that sets the perfect foundation for a really good time.
One Eyed Reilly formed shortly after St. Patrick’s Day 2012, but the members have been honing their musician-ship for many years leading up to their fortunate convergence. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Rick Meagher comes from an Americana singer/songwriter background, but with a father who is 100% Irish and a grandmother born in County Cork, One Eyed Reilly is the natural culmination of his musical journey. Classically-trained violinist St. John Fraser brings his considerable size and talent to bear with his ridiculously inventive and creative fiddle playing — mixing multiple styles and techniques in a red-bearded, frenzied attack. The band is rounded out by Aaron Hendel on bass and electric guitar and Tim Kurteff-Schatz on drums/percussion. Together it all adds up to a beer-drinking, foot-stomping, hand-clapping celebration that will have you hoisting a pint and bellowing “Sláinte” (pr. SLAHN-chÉ™) ! That’s Irish Gaelic for “Good Health!”
And just as a reminder, Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17th, which marks the passing of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. According to tradition, Patrick converted the pagan Irish to Christianity. Patrick's efforts against the pagans were eventually turned into an allegory in which he drove the "snakes" out of Ireland. In fact, Ireland never had any snakes. St. Patrick's Day, while not a legal holiday in the United States, is nonetheless widely recognized and observed throughout the country as a celebration of Irish and Irish-American culture. Celebrations include prominent displays of the color green, religious observances and numerous parades. It has been celebrated in North America since the late 18th century.
Come out for what promises to be a fun evening and get a jump on the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
