About Regional Waste Management Authority
Regional Waste Management Authority
Regional Waste Management Authority (RWMA) is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) uniting Yuba and Sutter Counties and the Cities of Live Oak, Marysville, Wheatland, and Yuba City. Established with the aim of delivering reliable, economical, integrated, and environmentally sound waste management services to the entire region, RWMA recently updated its JPA agreement in November 2021, showcasing its commitment to adaptability and meeting evolving community needs. Through collaborative efforts, RWMA's six member agencies partner with Recology Yuba-Sutter for solid waste collection services, ensuring efficient and comprehensive waste management solutions for residents, businesses, and organizations across the area.
In addition to its core services, RWMA oversees the operation of the Yuba-Sutter Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located in Yuba City, in partnership with Recology Yuba-Sutter. Owned by RWMA, this facility plays a critical role in the safe disposal and management of hazardous materials, underscoring the organization's dedication to environmental stewardship and community safety. Furthermore, RWMA member agencies came together in 1995 to establish a Regional Agency Formation Agreement, consolidating disposal and diversion quantities and facilitating compliance with state waste management regulations. This agreement laid the foundation for streamlined diversion programs and the development of the Regional Integrated Waste Management Plan, reflecting RWMA's ongoing commitment to sustainable waste management practices and the well-being of the region.
