About Yuba Water Agency
Yuba Water Agency
Located at 1220 F Street in Marysville, California, Yuba Water Agency stands as a beacon of dedicated service and innovation in water management. Established in 1959 by a special act of the California State Legislature, our agency has been entrusted with the vital tasks of flood risk reduction, ensuring a sustainable water supply, fostering hydropower generation, enhancing fish habitat, and facilitating recreation opportunities. Governed by a board of seven elected officials, we operate as a separate government entity, committed to serving the people of Yuba County with integrity and foresight.
With a rich history rooted in addressing the region's challenges, Yuba Water Agency has evolved into a multifaceted organization equipped to meet the diverse needs of our community. Over the years, we have meticulously developed and maintained facilities capable of storing approximately one million acre-feet of water and generating over 400 megawatts of hydropower. Our annual release of more than 260,000 acre-feet of water to local irrigation districts sustains the agricultural heart of Yuba County, supporting farmers and ranchers in their vital endeavors.
As stewards of our water resources, Yuba Water Agency is deeply engaged in collaborative efforts aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship. Through partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as conservation groups, we strive to implement innovative solutions for water transfers, efficient water management, and fisheries restoration. Our commitment to excellence has been recognized on numerous occasions, including the prestigious Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) in 2009 for our pivotal role in the Lower Yuba River Accord. With unwavering dedication and a forward-thinking approach, Yuba Water Agency remains steadfast in our mission to safeguard our community against floods, secure our water future, and foster a thriving environment for generations to come.
